The Largest Taste of a Southern City: Taste of Atlanta 2013- Midtown (Georgia Tech Square)

Taste of Atlanta is an event I always look forward to every year.  This was special because I had VIP access to any and everything at the festival.  Over 90+ restaurants, food trucks, caterers, wineries/ breweries, etc. were showcased for the 2013 event.  It can definitely be overwhelming for a foodie, but I was up for the challenge.  Now mind you, I am petite and only have one stomach.  I did not sample every vendor there, but I did strategically try samples of the new and up and coming vendors and the ones that sparked my interest from their presence and presentation.  I also took cards of the vendors I would follow up with and review at another time.

An Atlanta Classic That Gives An Out-of-the-Box Experience: The Vortex- Atlanta (Little 5 Points)

Vortex is known for it outrageous and dark restaurant environment and even more "out there" menu items.  The original Vortex is in Little 5 Points and has a ginormous skull in the front of the restaurant, and its mouth is the entrance.  That already says a great deal about the place.  Inside the walls are plastered in old license plates, vintage posters of pin-up girls and action figures, and large pieces that are interesting to look at, like an original motorcycle and a modern jute box.  The environment is definitely eclectic from the wait staff having piercings and tattoos all over to the entire restaurant covered in paraphernalia of the outrageous and interesting.

Cosmopolitan- Marietta

Cosmopolitan is right off the 75 North Delk Rd exit. It is a stand alone restaurant with plenty of parking and a large dining room as well as party rooms for private events.  I came across this place by accident.  I looked up family owned restaurants in Marietta and Cosmopolitan came up so I decided to give it a shot.

Creative Plates and Libations with a Historic Vibe: Establishment- Atlanta (Buckhead)

Establishment is a bar/ small plates lounge with an old history feel.  The owner, Brandon Lewis, is a big history buff and modeled Establishment after 1845.  The lounge is covered in real wood carvings, deer antler chandeliers and cow hides.  The best way to compare the ambiance is as if you've just walked into an upscale cabin in the mountains in the middle of Buckhead.
